Whether we choose to include it in our lives or not, Mental Health issues will always be a part of the everyday,a part of our community. It’s not like we think it is.It’s not a call for attention, widely known as’’attention seeking’’. It isn’t something that only happens in the movies,in fact, it could be happening right now, as you read this article, in your neighbourhood.
Actually, it most definitely is.
Depression, Obsessive compulsive disorder widely known as OCD, Anxiety ,Schizophrenia ,Borderline Personality Disorder…should I keep going?
Half of us don’t even have a clue what these truly are, and that’s okay. It doesn’t make us bad people. Depression isn’t feeling ‘down’ every once in a while. OCD isn’t having certain rules in your life. Anxiety isn’t feeling stressed before an exam.
The way we portray Mental Health isn’t always completely right, and very often, creates stigma around the topic in communities.
In my opinion,it is very important to understand things like depression thoroughly, because one day, it will come knocking on you doorstep and you will have nothing to fight it with.
That girl that you see at the disco every single time? Yeah, she goes home each night and feels so terrible about herself that she spends the next day in her bed contemplating whether she should get up or not.
That boy you always find being super shy in class? He’s fighting with Anxiety every single day, to the point where he can’t walk into a room full of people without having a mental breakdown before. To the point where he avoids socializing because he can’t stand the feeling of not being good enough.Sometimes, little tasks like answering the teacher could send him into a state of such anxiety that he will remember this day, weeks later.
And what is the worst thing about all of this? None of us asked for it. So, the next time you tell someone to stop over-reacting, think about it.Would you like to hear this from strangers who haven’t a clue what happens behind closed doors? I don’t think so.
Why talk about this? Why are you even reading this? Because it matters. And in today’s generation, we aren’t completely aware of all the dangers we will be faced with. Yes, we all know what drunk driving leads to but do we know what untreated depression leads to?
In reality, the research from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) showed one in five young Irish adults aged 19-24 and one in six young people aged 11-13 were experiencing mental health problems.
This is something we should think about. Take a moment to think about the people around us, and what they go through everyday.
But after all,we aren’t helpless. It is in our hands to break the stigma and do something about this. You don’t have to be a superhero to help someone. The next time you see that someone is struggling,in any aspect possible,go up to them, talk to them, show them you care. In the end,we’re all capable of changing someones life.

In pharmaceutical licensing, blockbusters and late-stage opportunities are becoming harder to find. A realistic alternative is to focus on innovative earlier-stage and niche opportunities. If the licensing deal and subsequent pharmaceutical development are done right, these products can lead to rewarding outcomes for the pharma licensee, for the biotech licensor, and for the patients that ultimately benefit from new therapy options.
